Genocide
Genocide is described as the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. There have been many instances of genocide throughout the world. The most famous and most gruesome being the Holocaust, where the Nazi party had taken Jewish people from their homes and practically tortured them for work. Millions died from this event. And yet similar events are happening again today. The mass killings in Somalia had started in the 1990's, but still continue to this day. It was said that the world would learn from the Holocaust and ensure that nothing as cruel as that would happen again. But like most evil things that have happened throughout the world, history has repeated itself this day with the killings in Somalia.
To the Ancient Egyptians, Somalia was known as "Gods Land," now, it is known as one of the world's poorest, most violent countries, affected by warring militias, famine, warlords and pirates. In 1991, Somalia underwent a series of events when their central government was toppled by clan militias that later turned against each other. Since then Somali citizens have been in fear for their lives, thousands were removed from their homes and moved to safer places because their homes were either ruined or captured by the war militias or bandits. For twenty-one years Somalis have been dealing with deaths, killings and fighting. For twenty-one years they have not been able to call their country a home.
